A photograph is a subjective impression.  It is what the photographer sees.

No matter how hard we try to get into the skin, into the feeling of the subject or situation, however much we empathize, 

it is still what we see that comes out in the images, 

it is our reaction to the subject and in the end, the whole corpus of our work becomes a portrait of ourselves. 

한 장의 사진이란 주관적 인상에 지나지 않으며, 그것은 사진가의 시선이다.

우리가 아무리 그 껍질 속으로 들어가려하고, 주제나 상황의 감정 속으로 몰입하려고 노력하며,

또한 아무리 공감한다 하더라도

그 이미지에서 나오는 것은 여전히 우리의 주관적 시선, 즉 주제에 대한 우리의 반응인 것이다.

결국, 작품 덩이는 우리 자신의 초상화가 되어 버린다.
